The Lamp That Mommy Built—the DIY story of a blue-and-white lamp on the cheap

This is the lamp that Mommy built.IMG_4325

*******************************************************

This is the page

From Shades of Light

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built. lamp inspiration

*******************************************************

This is the vase,

That beat the price,

Of the lamp on the page

Of expensive lights

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built. IMG_42562

*******************************************************

This is the wood

(Without its coat

Of dark wood stain)

That sits afloat

The neck of the vase

That beat the price

Of the expensive piece

Of blue and white

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built. IMG_4257

*******************************************************

This is the hardware,

That came from Lowe’s,IMG_4254

That fit together

Just like so,IMG_4321

With the wood, that was stained,

On top of the vase,IMG_4315

That beat the price

Of the expensive piece

Of blue and white

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built.

*******************************************************

This is the shade

From the discount storeIMG_4259

That balances perfectly (forevermore),

IMG_4323

Atop the piece

Of blue and white

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built.

*******************************************************

This is the bitIMG_4305

That drilled the hole

IMG_4306

For the cord of the light

IMG_4311 Atop the vase

That beat the price

Of the expensive piece

Of blue and white

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built.

(That would have been

All tattered and torn

And left a girl all forlorn

If she had drilled it herself.)

*******************************************************

This is the feltIMG_4258

That was put into place

IMG_4316b

To raise up the base

IMG_4330 So the cord could plug

And light the vase

That beat the price

Of the expensive piece

Of blue and white

That inspired the lamp that Mommy built.

*******************************************************

This is the Daddy, all shaven and shorn,9-10-2006-14

Who kisses the Mommy, no longer forlorn,

And who drilled the hole,

And threaded the cord,

And placed the felt,

And the wooden board,

And twisted the hardware,

And balanced the shade,

And tightened the finial,

So it wouldn’t fade,

Atop of the vase

That beat the price

Of the expensive piece

Of blue and white

That inspired the lamp that Daddy Mommy built.IMG_4325

Total Approximate Cost (because I bought all the stuff a long time ago and can’t remember exactly):

vase from Hobby Lobby: $15

lamp kit and parts from Lowe’s: $20??

lamp shade from Wally World: $10??

TOTAL=$45 (give or take)
